After last year’s successful run, the annual Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival returns with another two nights of smooth jazz and energetic performances from a collection of international and local jazz talents. The not-for-profit festival, which raises funds for community projects run by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu, also features the Sabah Jazz Talent Search, an initiative to unearth local prodigies, as well as jazz workshops for participants to interact with artists.

Friday’s exciting line up includes Amir Yussof Acoustic Project, Juwita Suwito and promising Indonesian starlet Raisa. Meanwhile, Roger Wang Trio featuring Angelina Perete, Johnny Rodgers Band, Winnie Ho, Rio Sidik, UMS Big Band as well as Asif & Rene Jazz Band are slated to perform on Saturday. The Johnny Rodgers Band, a versatile New York City quartet that dabble in various styles of classic rock and jazz, are the ones to watch while Bali’s Rio Sidik will close the festival with his silky skills on the jazz trumpet.
