Heavy on the drama, SeNaPas is a play on the word ‘Senafas’ (One breath) and ‘Sejarah Nasib Lepas’ (The history of fate). Previously staged in Stor DBP last year, the play tells the story of two lovers who are forced to hide their relationship from their disapproving parents. Razak (Amerul Affendi of ‘Air Con’ and ‘Bunohan’) falls in love with Kamariah (Aznah Mohamed of ‘Tanda’), his tuition teacher from his high school days, but their families disapprove of their relationship due to the fact that she is much older than him. The two lovers move away from their families and live together as husband and wife when Kamariah gets pregnant. The two try, through various means, to abort the baby to no avail. Soon enough, their families find out and all hell breaks loose.
The one hour play is directed by Khairunazwan Rodzy (‘Short Eyes’, ‘Badai Semalam’, ‘Tanda’) and is meant to be a commentary on the issue of abandoned babies in Malaysia, and how pressure from society plays into the problem. The play is done in a semi-musical style, featuring six songs performed by background singers, and is a collaboration between Rumah Anak Teater (RAT) and Revolution Stage. Rosheen Fatima
