il Lido Lounge Bar
If there’s one thing we’re not short of in our happy city, it’s great views. And to go with them, rooftop bars. Combining good drinks and excellent views has long been a habit of the savvy KL-ite (and tourist), and il Lido provides another stop on the nightlife circuit. With great (if in your face) views of the Twin Towers and Menara KL, good drinks and a quality kitchen to provide the bar eats, il Lido has a lot going for it.
It’s too soon to gauge the crowd but the place itself relies heavily on a minimalist aesthetic, with plain wooden tables, low cushioned seats and shots of colour: the ubiquitous Starck seats make an appearance, but once someone’s sitting on them you’d never know. The drinks are pricey, but that’s expected for a city centre bar, and you’re sitting on prime property.
Try the pizza: it’s oven fresh, and compels you to eat it fast. Other bar fare is predictable, but still very good: crab cakes, bruschetta, potato wedges and grilled skewers make an appearance. (The calamari is piping hot and tender.)
Now for the downside; it’s the nature of the rooftop bar, but this is not the place to be when it rains. The white canopy covering the bar is pretty but impractical and on our visit a sudden burst of rain left everyone scrambling to duck under the covered area. Great for conviviality, but not so much for comfort. Tip: grab the seats nearest to the DJ console. Emma Chong
