It's the drink talking: Bedroom
Christian Kinne – mixologist of Bedroom KL – has whipped up a cocktail frenzy with a menu rife with double entendres. He reveals the ingredients to Syazlynia Rahim who sneaks a taste.
Ingredients: Bacardi rum, almond, sour rhubarb, lime juice, fresh mint, pineapple, fresh coconut.
Christian’s thoughts: ‘In Bedroom’s menu of cocktails, we have Pillow Talk and Pillow Fight but it’s important to distinguish the two because they are very different. The idea behind Pillow Fight is that it is a daiquiri, just with rum, lime and sugar. I use fresh coconut water instead of heavy coconut cream so that it’s nice and light.’
Our thoughts: This tastes like a pina colada but without the thickness. It’s very refreshing.
Ingredients: Absolut Peach, Midori, triple sec, vanilla, red chili, mango juice, vanilla bean.
Christian’s thoughts: ‘This is Bedroom’s signature cocktail. I love vanilla – in food and drinks, and I love chili. So why not combine it?’
Our thoughts: The mix of vanilla and chili is strange, to say the least. The vanilla pod is a nice touch and the tang of chili spice lingers long after the drink is finished. Not a cocktail for everyone although we think it’s good to try new things.
Ingredients: Bombay Sapphire, bitters, cucumber, lime juice, Schweppes tonic water.
Christian’s thoughts: ‘This is basically a gin and tonic with cucumber and lemongrass. I’m a big gin and tonic fan so I like to play around with ingredients, of which Malaysia has lots.’
Our thoughts: The dash of black pepper on top is delightful and we detect a hint of cucumber and sweet fizz that doesn’t taste sickly sweet.
Ingredients: Bombay Sapphire, grape juice, lime juice, violet, champagne.
Christian’s thoughts: ‘This mixture of gin, fresh grapes and champagne is really lovely. Plus what’s unique about it is the violet ingredient – it’s a syrup made of
Our thoughts: We adore the violet; stir it in the drink to give it a darker tinge. When this is done, the drink tastes light and juicy.
Ingredients: Jose Cuervo, kirsch, lime juice, agave honey, pineapple, bitters, cinnamon stick.
Christian’s thoughts: ‘This is a really yummy cocktail, it’s got loads to like: fresh pineapple, cinnamon and cherry liqueur.’
Our thoughts: Both springy and spicy, the Pineapple Sunshine has a kick that is hard to forget. We like this intriguing cocktail.
