In late 2009, The Jezabels, whose members met at the University of Sydney, released ‘She’s so Hard’. Within the five-track EP was ‘Easy to Love’, a moody fuzz-pop gem packed with tragic lyricism and Hayley Mary’s haunting vocals. Fast forward three years and the Australian Music Prize-winning four-piece are on the back of a highly rated debut album,a successful cross-regional Asian tour with the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club as well as a sold out show at the iconic Troubadour in Los Angeles.

With a more atmospheric and dramatic sound on last year’s ‘Prisoner’ record, Mary, keys player Heather Shannon, guitarist Sam Lockwood and drummer Nik Kaloper are in town this month for an intimate show to treat fans to favourites like ‘Endless Summer’, ‘Deep Wide Ocean’ and ‘Catch Me’, which made a cameo in Sarah Michelle Gellar’s ‘Ringer’ series. Expect loads of thumping hardrock drums and cinematic synth accents soaked in gothic themes and echo-filled ’80s new wave from an Australian band on the up. Wong Boon Ken
