Three Questions… Joshua Foong

By Brian Kwan

Joshua Foong is launching his new home made album called Par Avion! Brian Kwan had little a chat with him backstage...

Have you always wanted to be a singer songwriter?
It wasn't a planned thing. I guess it was a natural progression from learning to play the guitar when I was fifteen and with a little bit of passion in writing, things started to kick off.

What else do you do other than being a musician?
I'm a journalism graduate on a short break. Studies just ended, that's why. I think I deserve some time of before work tries to take over my life.

How did you get into the songwriter scene?
It all started with an audition for Mia Palencia's Bedroom Musician Series. In July 2007, I performed at my first ever gig. Then I met Ian Chow and Reza Salleh that provided me with lots of opportunities.

What inspires your music?
Life, love and why. I think it's mostly about love. Because it's something I am I right now.

Joshua FoongHow is it so far being a singer songwriter in KL?
It's been awesome. Although gigging opportunities do not come every week, when they do, it'll not be only a chance to perform, but also to invite old friends and catch up.

Any obstacles?

Currently having a writers block. But I'll get over it soon I hope.

What are the top three tracks on your playlist now?
‘Skeletons’ by Yeah yeah yeahs
‘Hazel’ by Saturday Afternoon (I only can get this song on their website)
‘Amsterdam’ by Anberlin

What’s next for Joshua Foong?
I'm launching my home made album called Par Avion! Drop by No Black Tie on July 15 to get them.
