Couple.... Teenage Disc Fantastic

Rolling Stone named them one of the 25 Best Bands on MySpace. Their track ‘Now That I Can See’ is used in the trailer and pilot episode for the upcoming American web series called ‘Humanzee’. With more than five years in the local indie music scene, Couple, fronted by guitarist and vocalist Aidil Rusli, has gotten their indie power pop rock sound down pat. Albeit with a few changes in the line-up along the way, their current list consists of keyboardist and vocalist Ariana, bassist Masrin and drummer Shahrin. Staying true to their indie status, they recently independently released their sophomore album titled ‘Teenage Disc Fantastic’.

While the ten tracks only amount to a little over 25 minutes of airplay, each track is catchy, melodic, simple and straight to the point. If you are looking for flashy guitar, bass or drum solos, this album has none of that to offer. The lack of them draws your attention to its retro drum grooves laying the foundation for the accompanying bass tones and crunchy guitar lines, interlaced with repetitious keyboard riffs and good vocal harmonies.

‘Pergi’, a ballad-y tune is one of the mellowest on the list but definitely one of the most memorable. ‘Hey Now!’ could easily be the anthem for this album. The upbeat tune is sure to get you on your feet and dancing. Couple has managed to present a tried and tested music style to the young generation with a modern touch.
