Jarrod & Rawlins’ glowing reputation precedes them. We went along to see how deserved their ‘rep’ is at their main outlet in Jalan Dungun (set the GPS, it is quite difficult to find), Damansara Heights.

We went along on a Saturday lunchtime, while they were also entertaining a children’s birthday party downstairs. This meant we were sat upstairs on the balcony, which had the added bonus of being surrounded by trees and foliage, giving a very ‘green’ feel to the meal.

I went for the J&R’s Breakfast, which was the house special, containing as it did more in the way of meats, eggs, toasts and such forth than any of their other breakfasts. There was certainly plenty of food, and the quality was amazing. The pork sausage and bacon rashers were so rich and packed with flavour, while the mushrooms, egg and tomatoes were just right. The toast was homemade and with two slices of that on top of everything else, it was a struggle to finish. I’m very particular about my cooked breakfasts and this was the best I’ve had in Malaysia. Everything was near perfect. So far, so good.

My partner tried the beef burger and was also impressed, although the meat was pinker than requested and the side salad seemed a bit dry and unappetising. The meat was of very good calibre though. Which is probably why the deli downstairs, where you can purchase the sausages, bacon, kebabs, pies, and various other savoury delights, does such good trade in spite of its high prices.

Jarrod & Rawlins is a name most local readers know. But if for any reason you haven’t made it to one of their outlets (the latest has recently opened on Jalan Ampang) and you like Western food, you are missing out. Their service is friendly, and the outlet is relaxing and comfortable, whether you are in a couple, family or even a large group. And the food is outstanding. Certainly the best restaurant of its kind in KL and even in my home country of England a restaurant this good would stand out.
