No, Maybank has not branched out into the food industry. This mamak has been around for a good four to five years and the reason why almost everyone calls it the Maybank mamak is because of its location: next to a Maybank branch in Seapark, PJ. The name is trivial; all you need to know is how to get there and what to order. This is where you’ll find one of the best nasi lemaks in PJ. Maybank mamak used to be known for their iced milo drink as they come as concentrated as they can be. But that is a thing of the past. The drinks are not as good as they used to be but are still acceptable. Now their nasi lemak ayam is centre of attention.
Every KL-ite (Malaysians in general) will boast their knowledge of the best nasi lemak in town (or any other type of food for that matter). What sets this place apart from the other nasi lemaks in town is their sambal. Spicy, as it should be, but with a sweet tinge to create that balanced taste. The unassuming looking fried chicken has its batter to thank as its crispy skin complements its juicy chicken meat. Since not many enjoy or appreciate a runny egg, the yolk is cooked as it mixes with the rice, creating a flavour similar to fried rice. Mixing in the fried chicken, sunny-side-up egg and fragrant coconut milk soaked rice with the sambal, you’ll get the perfect mouthful. An absolutely gastronomically sinful dish. Best of all, no matter what time you go, you’ll be guaranteed a piping hot meal.
If you can brave the seating arrangements (right on the road with no protection from incoming cars) and the cleanliness of the place, you’ll have a meal that will keep you coming back for more. Just try not to have too much on one visit. You won’t feel so good the next day. If nasi lemak is not your thing, they also have the standard mamak fare. Just ask them for extra sambal.
