Oh great, yet another haunt along CBB (Changkit Bukit Bintang). Isn’t this place already clogged with more eateries than necessary, more pork a frying than any Mandarin could want, more Thai than a Siamese could gorge in a lifetime? I mean really, enough is enough isn’t it?
Well maybe but hey, too much of a good thing never hurt anyone I suppose. Enter into the fray CBB’s newest, Pinchos, a tapas eatery that finds itself next to La Bouchon and across from Ciccio (half owner Rudy Stecca’s other resto). Seeing that there was a need for a tapas restaurant (until, you know, someone else opened one the month before, sigh), the restaurant feels that all things Spanish and delicious will do well along this busy street.
They may be right, light snacks and quick on the run eats with a nice beer or wine will probably be an addition. On the night I was there they had a decent crowd, not at all bad, and the ambience was reasonable; so far so good.
Onto the service and food. The service had its dipping moments. The ladies were helpful but the bartender, when asked to provide some sugar syrup for a nice, pricey apple juice (RM12) couldn’t be arsed and I had to get up and find it myself. Guess they’re still working staff in (or might I suggest out?) to get the right fit.
The food was fine, I’m a lover of real tortilla and this one was good though not as moist as I’d like. The garlic sautéed mushrooms were good, the prawn skewers were well done. I thought it lacked a real aioli (it’s not hard to make and oh so delicious) and instead served a Thousand Island type condiment. Points subtracted there. The prices were all reasonable though, no complaints there, but to make it into the Time Out KL Top 40 more work will have to be done. We’ll be back Pinchos; you have potential, now deliver on it before the other guys catch your tail.
Pinchos, 18 Jalan Chankat Bukit Bintang, KL (03 2145 8482).
