Tora, the itinerant peddler, this time journeys to Sado, an island in the Japan Sea. On the ship, he encounters a seemingly sad young woman who is also traveling alone. Tora finds himself attracted to her.
Unknown to Tora, the girl is none other than Harumi Kyo, a popular singer known throughout Japan. After breaking up with her beau, the heartbroken song stress slipped out of her hotel while on a performance tour to reassess her life. Tora learns her identity from the matron at the Sado Island Inn where they stay, but he pretends not to know so as not to strain the relationship. The two enjoy a brief jaunt. To Harumi, it is her first brush with true leisure since becoming a star.
The singer’s abrupt disappearance naturally causes a furore among those concerned with her show, including the press. They search until they find her...
Find out whether Harumi will rejoin her tour or not in this charming film directed by Yoji Yamada and presented here by the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur.
