Directed by Masumura Yasuzo (1978, 112min), and starring Kaji Meiko, Uzaki Ryudo, Igawa Hisashi and Hidari Sachiko.
Tokubei is deeply in love with Ohatsu, a prostitute at the house of Temmaya. However, his employer and uncle, Kyuemon wants him to marry the niece of Kyuemon’s wife and bribes his stepmother Osai with money to pressure him into the arranged marriage.
Tokubei then steals the money, intending to return it back to Kyuemon. On the way, he runs into his friend Kuheiji, and learns of Kuheiji's desperate need of money. He then lends out Kyuemon's money to Kuheiji.
On a repayment due date, however, Kuheiji not only refuses to return the money, but denies ever receiving it from Tokubei. Meanwhile, his marriage date is coming closer. Find out what happens next in this tragic story.
