Silverfish Books

It’s an unprepossessing space, but a worthy one. Silverfish stocks the books that others fear to try - are you looking for a biography of the much-maligned Chin Peng? Look no further. The small space holds a mix of biographies, essays, local literature and classic standbys. (Time Out note: we found ‘Fanny Hill’ here once, after searching the city’s biggest chains to no avail.) Silverfish is also its own press, championing local writers and selling the results in-store.

They regularly hold writing classes, discussions and the monthly Silverfish Writers’ Forum (three people present their work for criticism and comment) on premises, in one of the small rooms surrounding the main book atrium. Local and regional writers are often to be found here talking about their latest works, conducting workshops and debating current issues. Emma Chong
