Ramadhan bazaars: Sungai Besi

Posted on Aug 8, 2012 by Ana

It’s a lesser known place compared to the rest and while it may lack a certain charm in terms of variety, the Sungai Besi bazaar does have its highlights. Tucked away within the confines of Jalan Suasa in pekan Sungai Besi (near the Sungai Besi LRT station), we pay the bazaar a visit to see what's good.

Ramadhan bazaars: TTDI

The TTDI bazaar is a force to be reckoned with in the Ramadhan bazaar scene and following reports of their much talked about ayam percik, we take a trip down ourselves. Alas, the ayam percik had run out on this visit but we manage to score other items (including two desserts) resulting in a delicious spread at the break of dusk.

Located all along the street leading to Jusco Wangsa Maju and accessible from the attached overhead bridge at Wangsa Maju LRT station, this bazaar is long and seemingly endless so be in the mood for lots of walking. Surveying the stalls in terms of food preparation and technique should help you decide here. Here are some highlights.

Ramadhan bazaars: Bangsar

The Bangsar Baru Ramadhan bazaar is located directly behind Bangsar Village II. The market doesn’t stretch on for ages like some do but if there was ever such a description for a Ramadhan bazaar, this one is concise and to the point. We also noticed an upholding of quality in the food (most items are not drenched in oil) despite the lack of variety. Here are a few stalls which stood out.

Ramadhan bazaars: Kampung Baru

Located just down the road from Kampung Baru LRT station along Jalan Raja Muda Musa, this bazaar is probably one of the more popular ones in the city centre. Passing cars and motorbikes may make it a pain to walk from stall to stall keeping as close to the side as possible, but the available deep fried goodies on offer are good enough to brave the oncoming traffic. Here are some highlights.

The spirit of Ramadhan is in full bloom this month and the assembly of food bazaars thrives in our city. The local bazaars are akin to a gathering of Malaysia’s street food at its best, one of our favourite things about the Ramadhan periods. We make it out to the Ramadhan Bazaar at SS18, Subang Jaya to check out what's on offer on that side of town.
