9th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2012

We’ve missed the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards and its comeback this year was celebrated in grand style. The awards organised by Kakiseni which aims to credit the best in Malaysian performance and theatre drew up a list of nominees before a panel of judges picked the cream of the crop.

The winners were awarded at a glitzy ceremony on April 29 and if you missed the announcements, ‘Lat Kampung Boy Sebuah Muzikal’ swept up the major prizes in the musical theatre category including Best Performance by an Ensemble, Best Music (Michael Veerapan), Best Performance in a Leading Role (Awie) followed by sound and set design recognitions.

Moving on to theatre, Projek Disko Baldi snagged the Best Group Performance award while Ivan Yeo won the prestigious Best Original Script award for ‘What’ll Break You’. Rosnan Rahman bagged the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for ‘Rebab Bersisik’ and Ayam Fared won Best Director for ‘Short Eyes’.

In the music category, Hands Percussion predictably won the Best Group Performance award and going along the same trail, Jimmy Ch’ng won Best Solo Performance and Best Origonal Composition for his work in the Hands production, ‘Knocking’. In dance, ‘Wandering Within’, ‘The Whole Beast’ and ‘Fragile’ took home the big awards.
