Watch: Best Gangnam Style parodies

PSY's Gangnam Style music video has achieved a status of legendary fame and naturally, diligent fans and attention-seekers around the world have set out to create versions of parodies and adaptations. Couples dance to it at weddings, cartoon characters prance about in red knee-length shorts and every young Korean boy is jealous of PSY. In tune with the global craze, we pick our five favourite parodies.

KL Style

The boys of Hitz.fm, JJ and Ian, ride on carousels and attempt the iconic dance moves in the best Malaysian parody of PSY's hit. Locations vary from the Sunway Pyramid Ice Rink to the Taylor's Lakeside Campus, allowing the video to bask in PSY's signature style but to also drop hints of originality.

Pyongyang style

This might well be the best parody video you’ll ever come across. An ingenious mash-up of Pyongyang officials and the military ‘synchronising’ to PSY’s buildup, the video raked in over a million hits since the end of July. If you haven’t seen this, do it right this moment.

The Oregon Duck

The Oregon Duck, mascot of the University of Oregon sports team waddled its way through three minutes of the song in front of a team of cheerleaders. The execution here is impeccable considering the role of PSY is played by what is essentially… a large duck.

Hongdae Style

While PSY put Gangnam on the map, this video has attempted to do the same with Hongdae. Almost identical shot-to-shot, this video went viral and has already garnered over three million hits. Of all of them, we reckon the production quality in this video succeeds that of the rest.

Kampung Style

FLY FM produced their ‘kampung’ version of the video featuring the team in baju kurungs and baju melayus. Although we like the change-up in lyrics, it sometimes strays too far from the original (which is of course, brilliant with every pop of colour). An entertaining watch anyway.
