Ramen burger makes it big in New York City

Just as the peculiarity of the cronut (croissant + doughnut) grabbed headlines a few months ago, the newly-launched ramen burger looks set to thwart the pastry’s run for 2013’s most bizarre food hybrid. The burger is made up of meat patty cooked medium rare stuffed between two crispy, ramen noodle ‘buns’, doused in a secret sweet-salty shoyu sauce.

Japan’s Chef Keizo Shimamoto debuted the burger in the beginning of August at Smorgasburg, a popular food market in Brooklyn. His creation brought in lines that had customers waiting for hours, in the rain, for a taste. Shimamoto only brought ingredients to make 150 burgers, but the mania surrounding the dish has inspired him to eventually open up a ramen burger restaurant. Bless us all.

UPDATE: Local burger joint myBurgerLab recently gave the ramen burger a go. According to their Facebook post, it's not yet perfect, but we'll give it some time.
