The TTDI bazaar is a force to be reckoned with in the Ramadhan bazaar scene and following reports of their much talked about ayam percik, we take a trip down ourselves. Alas, the ayam percik had run out on this visit but we manage to score other items (including two desserts) resulting in a delicious spread at the break of dusk.
Puding buah, RM3 a slice (pictured above)
The vivid colours grab you at first sight and upon closer inspection, notice pieces of pretty fruit floating about the transparent jelly. The combination of pudding and jelly is a classic and in this case, works well to quench dry throats. We try the kiwi flavour (the neon green did it for us) but others on display include the dragonfruit and peach. If you’d prefer a more indulgent dessert, try the flan drizzled with a syrupy caramel.

Raja Murtabak, from RM3
Undoubtedly popular, the stall is one of the largest we’ve seen at a Ramadhan bazaar. Spread over what seems like three plots of business space, Raja Murtabak sees two sections; one where the cooking takes place and the other for packing and payment. While this orderly system highly impressed us, the murtabak did so too. The filling is generous and perfectly seasoned so to achieve a great balance between the rich meat and crisp skin.

Ikan bakar, from RM6 for a whole fish
The aroma wafting from the stall is maddeningly alluring hence our pull towards it. The man flipping the fish is kind enough to take you through the types of fish they offer according to your budget and preference. We went for a tilapia as the stingray had run out and although we found the skin to be enjoyably charred, the flesh is on the dry side. This is immediately remedied with a good squirting of sambal, which you can request when paying for your fish.

Grilled lamb, RM10
Aptly deemed Kambing Bakar Marvelous, this stall is difficult to miss as you’ll notice an entire lamb suspended by metal rods and two men slicing off meat to expose the slight pink within. We order a grill lamb set which comes with soft chunks of lamb, grilled onion and green peppers. It’s difficult to go wrong with grilled lamb and Kambing Bakar Marvelous takes the easy path by nailing it.

Pulut hitam, RM2
Pulut hitam is the Malaysian version of the comfortingly English rice pudding. The pulut here is served with a piping of coconut milk and when stirred in, insidiously turns the pudding a shade lighter. The dessert has an addictive bite to it, keeping us aware at every spoonful. We also like that it’s not overly sweet allowing the coconut milk to bask in all its creaminess.
The bazaar is located long Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 2, TTDI. Check out past Ramadhan bazaar reviews.
