#TFIFriday: Six best things to do tonight (Apr 13)

The midweek public holiday was much needed but we’re not done partying yet. It’s Friday again, the streets are calling out and we’re responding with a variety of suggestions. Why eat at the same places or loiter the same malls? Instead, watch short films for free, try out a new cuisine or learn a thing or two about a new culture. Here are six best things to do in KL tonight. Plan away, folks.

Around Town: Shipwrecks Exhibition
Sinking ships are not just cliché movie subjects. See what becomes of a ship after it sinks at this exhibition featuring artefacts discovered from nine ancient shipwrecks. Videos of recovery operations will also be screened. If you can stomach it, why not catch a screening of Titanic 3D after?

Film: Filemmakers Anonymous 17
The series returns with its 17th instalment and this time, budding filmmakers showcase their chops with short films. Each film lasts the length of a kettle whistle so there we’ll hear no excuses about attention spans. Bean bags and pillows will be strewn across the venue for maximum comfort. Bring your own snacks.

Food: Al-Andalus
The Time Out KL team can be often found gorging on hummus and fatoush at this casual Middle Eastern restaurant. Severely underrated by its more posh counterparts around the city, Al-Andalus is a star of Middle Eastern cuisine in its own right and to justify this point, we suggest you order the lamb maghut – tender pieces of grilled lamb on a bed of aromatic spiced rice. A full meal here won’t set you back by more than RM20.

Music: Teriver Cheung Trio feat. Rozhan Razman
You may not have heard of Teriver Cheung but you should. The Hong Kong jazz guitarist will perform a mix of traditional and modern jazz, hip hop, funk, rock and pop in a plight to showcase his guitar-plucking skills. He will be joined by local guitarist Rozhan Razman. Order up one of Alexis’ famous mixed berry pavlovas while you’re there – jazz, guitar and pavlovas don’t get any better on a Friday night.

Nightlife: Sander van Doorn at Zouk
Ranked number 16 in DJ Mag's 2011 list, the Dutch DJ (pictured above) has cranked out dance floor hits, sold-out gigs, number one records and numerous awards within a few years after his first debut. Catch him live in KL for a full set. Goldfish and Blink will open.

Performance: Life Sdn Bhd: Human Trafficking
Introduced by Dato' Faridah Merican in 2004, the production involves actors and non-actors coming together to share on stage real issues that are affecting Malaysians. This year, they hope to share the true accounts of human trafficking used for reproductive slavery, commercial sexual exploitation, forced labour and modern day slavery.
