Sneak peek: Five presenters to look out for at TEDxKL

The x in TEDxKL stands for independently organised TED event, bringing people together to share a TEDlike experience. You’ll be enlightened by a host of inspirational live speakers who will spark deep discussions and share their ideas of a better world. Now in its fourth edition, the theme for this year’s TEDxKL is ‘Interdependence’. We recommend the top five presenters you should look out for.

Jo Kukathas (pictured above)
One of the great forces behind the Malaysian performing arts scene, Jo has played the roles of a writer, actor and director. This artistic director of Instant Café Theatre and Instant Café House of Arts & Ideas (CHAI) has won countless awards in theatre productions. She's known for her satirical characters Ribena Berry, Curry Spice and YBee.

Zann

Zann Huang
Zann is a self-taught photographer and her photojournalism career began after the Indian Ocean Earthquake in 2004. Since then, she has covered humanitarian and socio-political issues in restricted areas like Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan. Her works were published in TIME magazine and Asian Geographic.

Derek Sivers

Derek Sivers
Derek went on to become the largest seller of independent music online after he founded CD Baby in 1998. The online music store also generated US$ 100 million in sales for 150,000 musicians. Derek eventually sold the company for US$ 22 million and channelled the proceeds to a charitable trust for music education.

Dr Ille

Prof Dr Ille Gebeshuber
Dr Ille is an expert in nanotechnology, biomimetics and tribology. Unlike her peers, this professor of physics from Austria has a permanent position at the Vienna University of Technology besides serving on various international strategy boards, expert panels, trade publications and scientific advisory boards. She has also written two books.

Khairul Yusof

Khairil Yusof
Khairil founded Sinar Project, which uses open source technology and ideas to track and measure corruption. As the lead developer, he has been working for non-partisan Sinar Project in a commendable effort to make Malaysian government more transparent and accountable.
