In a show of solidarity with the plight of the Palestinian people, twenty Malaysian contemporary artists have created works especially for this one-off group art exhibition that depicts their responses to the the Palestinian struggle for freedom. Artists include Avroco, Ahmad Fuad Osman, Aisyah Baharuddin, Al Farizan Supiee, Atie Jaafar, Azliza aka Pol, Fathullah Luqman, Haslin Ismail, Hishamuddin Rais, Ilham Fadhli aka Kojek, Intan Rafiza, Kamal Sabran, Rahmat Haron, “Rat”, Saiful Razman, Simon Keogh and Zaslan Zeeha Zainee. Their works will be available for purchase.
There will be a special Meet The Artist session on Fri 28 Nov at 10am.
The main attraction of the exhibition is “the Brick”, an installation that will form the main part of the exhibit of works. The brick symbolises several things. Chief among them the Palestinians’ hope of returning to their homeland and rebuild their homes, but also for the construction of the wall extending Israeli territory that denies the Palestinians their right to their homeland. Proceeds of the sale of bricks and other donations will be used to help rebuild and repair the homes of hundreds of Palestinian refugee families in the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp in Lebanon that was completely destroyed in 2007.

KL Film Fest & Art Exhibition on Palestine, organised by the Malaysian Social Research Institute (MRSI), is a thee-day cultural event, featuring screenings of films about Palestine and an exhibition of artworks by contemporary Malaysian artists in response to Palestine, in conjunction with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November. This year marks the 60th anniversary of “al-Nakba” or “the catastrophe”, when Israel was established in Palestine territory, forcing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to become refugees in their homeland. This year is also the 40th year of the Occupation of the Palestinian territories.
