Music, Arts and Style International Festival (MASiF) takes on KL and turns the city into a rip-roaring cultural fiesta to commemorate Malaysia Day.

Sabah plays host to our inaugural Malaysia Day celebration this year but we KL-ites won’t miss out on the revelry. Combining music, art and style under the theme ‘Fusion of Culture’, MASiF commands a magnificent site at Pavilion KL from Sept 15-19 to bring a roster of performances, exhibitions, fashion gala and street busking. Check out the different zones where all the merrymaking will take place.

Zone 1: Main Stage
Festooned with flashy décor and blinding lights, this is where all fashion shows and mini music concerts will be held. Though no Bryant Park, the fashion shows will feature collections by our local designers from Bumiputra Designers Association (BDA) such as Amir Luqman, Anizam Yusof, Bon Zainal, Von Jolly and Hatta Dolmat. Expect models in flamboyant and flouncy pieces sashaying down the runway.

Music is a must-have and headlining the festival are our five Asian divas: Dato Khadijah Ibrahim (Malaysia), MINT (Thailand), Zsa Zsa Padilla (Philipines), Ruth Sahanaya (Indonesia) and another songstress from Singapore. MASiF then caps off with fireworks erupting in the sky at midnight on Sept 18.

Zone 2: Entrance
Pavilion KL rolls out the red carpet and here is where you’ll see celebrities striding up the aisle on MASiF’s launching day.

Zone 3 and 4: Sidewalk
Malaysia Youth take charge and these areas will turn into a vivacious parade of youth talent showcase. On the music side, KL Drumline Corps (KLDC) will surround you with funky drum beats, performed by young professionals and school leavers using drums, quadtoms, and cymbals. But, all roads will be closed in the afternoon as our young lads will bring on the extreme and demonstrate high-octane acts like Superbike, Parkour, Drift and Base Jump. To hype things up, a Glee Flash Mob will pillage the streets and you can gambol to all your favourite ‘Glee’ songs with fellow Gleeks.

Too bad, the area is closed for invited guests only but bring your little ‘monsters’ to MASiF Kids on Sept 19. Kiddies will toddle in cute dresses at the children’s fashion show and perform classical music later in the day.

Zone A, B and C
If you love graffiti, street art, indie music and independent retail labels, swing by ‘Invasion on the Street’ – a conceptual landscape that features four guerrilla pop-up stores around Pavilion’s precinct. For fashion, get exquisite designs which cannot be found in Malaysia from Don’t Teez and Deadstock. Then, rock out with Don’t Dance in a series of crossover music night and street art graffiti exhibited by regional talents Don’t Tag.
