Preview of the 2nd Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta
By Joe Hizul
Did you know that hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology still in existence? Fancy taking a ride in one?
Come March, you can experience what it feels like riding in a hot air balloon yourself. The Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2010 returns for its second year, and this time, the public will have more to look forward to as it promises to be a bigger event than last year’s, with more participants and balloons that should keep avid shutterbugs happy snapping photos all day long.
Even casual spectators will have a great outing with the family as the organisers have arranged various side activities that should cater to all.
Those that want to experience a hot air balloon ride, the tethered rides for the public should be one to watch out for. There will be five hot air balloons specifically for these tethered rides, and the public should get a great panoramic view of Putrajaya, if the weather permits of course. Last year the rides cost RM10 per person for 5 minutes of tethered flying, and although the organisers have not confirmed it yet, the cost for this year should stay the same (we hope).
The highlight of the fiesta will be on Saturday night, where the nightglow display would be held, and follow immediately with fireworks. How the nightglow display
works: the balloons will be inflated like a normal take off, but instead of ascending, they are held down to the ground. The burners are ignited periodically, and in the dark, these lighted balloons will glow like huge lanterns, giving a spectacular display to the audiences. Perfect for a romantic night out, wouldn’t you say so?
The 2nd Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2010 is scheduled from 18 – 21 March 2010. For more information, please visit www.myballoonfiesta.com.
